VS Next Generation
“If Hip Hop has the ability to corrupt young minds, it also has the ability to uplift them.”
-KRS One

Versa-Style Next Generation Program
Versa-Style Next Generation is a group of highly dedicated young dancers from the Los Angeles area. The program offers the opportunity to participate in a pre-professional Hip Hop dance experience. Students are introduced into the Streetdance community through their engagement in community performances, travel performances, and events such as competitions, festivals, productions, dance intensives and classes in hopes for them to connect to global Hip Hop dance culture. Students receive personalized dance mentorship from VS:PEC Teaching Artists, in addition to Versa-Style Dance Company Principal Dancers.

Teaching Artist Training
Versa-Style: Performance Education Community mentors a new generation of aspiring Los Angeles-area dancers and ARTivists to become teachers by identifying passionate young individuals from marginalized communities. We offer training and employment opportunities in the arts education field so that they may return to their neighborhoods and schools to teach. In doing so, these developing dance educators function as both instructors and role models within their community.
Brief Versa-Style curriculum overview: We teach the foundations and techniques of Locking, Popping, Breaking, House, Whacking and Hip Hop.

Applying to College Workshop Program
Versa-Style: Performance Education Community offers personalized guidance to our students to access post-secondary education. VS:PEC pairs prospective college attendees with a facilitator and college mentors assisting students with items such as their personal statements, letters of recommendation, transcript orders, and other supplementary materials such as interviews and auditions. This individualized mentorship helps students who are interested in arts and civic engagement careers choose the appropriate college and major.

Mentorship Program
Once in college, the guidance and mentorship continues. Each student is paired with a college undergraduate or graduate who, for the student’s first year of college (and beyond, if necessary) offers guidance and tutoring in any academic subject, time-management or career choices. The relationship of mentor and mentee is one VS:PEC takes very seriously, and chooses its mentors carefully, taking time to match the right mentor with the right mentee, so that the relationship is productive and effective.

Tuition Grants
Tuition Grants, in the form of scholarships, are available for exceptional high school or college-aged students pursuing a path in the arts who are in need of financial assistance. Specifically, we provide scholarship money to support youth who are interested in training, studying or working in the performing arts, arts education or civic engagement fields. We help teens from underserved backgrounds have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities, classes, and programs that help them gain a variety of life skills and artistic knowledge.

Every child has known God.
Not the God of names,
Not the God of don’t’s,
Not the God whoever does anything weird.
But the God who only knows
Four words.
And he keeps repeating them, saying:
“Come dance with me.”
Come Dance.
-Hafez
