Empowering Youth Through Hip Hop Dance
Versa-Style: Performance Education Community is a collective of Hip Hop ARTivists, empowering Los Angeles youth by utilizing the DANCE element of Hip Hop, an evolving social movement born from marginalized communities.
Led by former students who themselves were impacted by the work, VS:PEC actively cultivates a pipeline of teaching artists by engaging and mentoring the next generation of community leaders who reflect the diverse population of our city.
This mission is based on the belief that the arts are essential for the development of academic proficiency, creativity, leadership abilities and meaningful community connections that create and sustain essential pathways to healthy, stable and productive futures… helping our youth flourish.
We bring a dynamic one-hour show to public schools in Los Angeles that inspires self-efficacy in our students and provides a new perspective on the impact arts can have in their communities.
Hip means to know, it’s a form of intelligence
To be Hip is to be update and relevant
Hop is a form of movement
You can’t just observe a Hop, you gotta Hop up and do it
Hip and Hop is more than music
Hip is the knowledge, Hop is the movement
Hip and Hop is intelligent movement
